For years, businesses have relied on SaaS platforms for CRM, customer support, marketing, finance, and project management.

But agentic AI introduces an interesting possibility: instead of employees navigating multiple applications, AI agents could complete workflows across systems on their behalf.

This raises an important question for the software industry.

Will companies eventually need fewer SaaS subscriptions because AI agents can perform many of the same business functions?

Or will AI agents simply become another layer operating on top of existing SaaS platforms?

    There are significant business implications:

Cost: Could agents reduce software licensing and operational expenses?

Productivity: Could employees accomplish more without switching between applications?

Integration: Will existing SaaS platforms become the infrastructure that agents depend on?

Security: Could consolidating workflows through autonomous agents introduce new risks?

My question for the Lounge.ai community:

Over the next three years, what percentage of traditional SaaS applications do you think AI agents could realistically replace in your organization?

I'd be especially interested in perspectives from SaaS founders, AI developers, and business leaders navigating this transition.

For a company like SaasRise, I'd guess about a quarter of our SaaS tools could be replaced in three years, mostly the ones where someone just copies data from one screen to another. The CRM and accounting software would stay as the place the records live, with agents doing the clicking on top of them rather than replacing them.

Great perspective, Ryan! I agree that AI agents are more likely to replace repetitive workflows than the core SaaS platforms themselves. Systems like CRM and accounting will probably remain essential as systems of record, while agents handle data entry, integration, and routine tasks across applications. The interesting question is whether this shift will reduce SaaS costs or simply change how businesses interact with their existing software. Appreciate the insight from SaasRise!
