Shipped: World Love: human-centered AI for small languages
World Love is my experimental project on ethical, human-centered AI, with a focus on small languages like Mongolian. Most AI tools work poorly for languages with few speakers and little online text, so people who speak them are left behind. I build small assistants and experiments on Hugging Face and write about what I learn on my site, in English, Mongolian and Czech. Early stage and still in development. I’d love to learn from others working on low-resource languages.

Mongolian speakers getting left behind by AI tools is a real gap, but "ethical, human-centered AI for small languages" is a hard thing for a design partner to say yes to. I think you'd land partners faster by picking one everyday job Mongolian speakers struggle with today, like answering customer messages for a small shop in Ulaanbaatar, and making World Love really good at just that.
Thank you Ryan, this is really helpful advice. You're right that "AI for small languages" is too broad for a partner to say yes to. Answering customer messages in Mongolian for small shops in Ulaanbaatar is a good example: many small businesses there get questions on Facebook Messenger every day and have no time to reply. I'll think about one clear use case like this and test it with a few real shops first. Thanks for pushing me to focus.
