About Jane Street

Overview

Quantitative trading firm that has become a direct investor in AI compute (Fluidstack, Etched).

History and team

Jane Street was founded on August 31, 1999 by Tim Reynolds, Robert Granieri, Marc Gerstein and Michael Jenkins. Reynolds, Granieri and Jenkins had worked at Susquehanna International Group, and Gerstein had been a developer at IBM. The firm is based at 250 Vesey Street in Manhattan. Wikipedia lists about 3,000 employees in 2024 and revenue of about $39.6 billion for FY2025. Granieri was still at the firm as of 2026. Jane Street has not named partners who lead its AI investing, and it does not publish a venture team page.

AI investing

Jane Street invests from its own balance sheet. It does not run an outside venture fund, and no fund names or fund sizes are public. Its AI deals often tie to its own need for compute. In April 2026 it committed about $6B to CoreWeave's AI cloud and made a $1B equity investment in CoreWeave. In August 2026 it led Etched's $700M round at a $21B valuation, and it is also Etched's first customer. Etched delivered its first rack to Jane Street. Newcomer reports that Jane Street is on the cap tables of Anthropic, Etched, MatX and Fluidstack. In June 2026 the Wall Street Journal reported that its private company portfolio was worth about $20B. Crunchbase counts 56 investments and Tracxn counts 46, so the totals differ by source.

Stages and check sizes

Jane Street has no stated stage focus or check size policy. Its public AI deals are mostly large growth and late-stage rounds. It led Etched's $700M growth round and Fluidstack's $1.5B private equity round. It also took part in Anthropic's $13B Series F, Nscale's $2B Series C and Oxide Computer Company's $445M Series D. Its own cheque amounts in these rounds are not disclosed. Founders should not expect a seed programme, because none is public.
