What have I used to build GSR Network? Wouldn't you like to know ...

When I tell people I founded six newsroom properties, they hear a publisher. Some hear something worse: a guy who lets a machine write the news.

So I've stopped leading with that line. Today I'm writing out the architecture of GSR Network, piece by piece, to use in job and client conversations. I want to nail this part down in a serious way.

Ingestion: live inputs from APIs, RSS feeds, ESPN APIs and structured JSON.
Normalization: everything gets put into the same shape.

Ranking and suppression: breaking news moves up and stale data gets held back, the way a newspaper editorial desk would sort it.

Story cards: headline, key data, analysis and what to watch next.
Human approval gate: I make the final call on every story. Every story links back to the original source. No AI-written stories.

Failure modes: what breaks, and what happens when it does.
The stack is Python, TypeScript, Next.js, GitHub Actions and Vercel, with Expo/EAS for the Android build. I write the code myself.

That's a lot of work on my part, but it's what a founder does when he or she wants their business to be in the middle of key conversations.

The person and the work haven't changed. Described from the engineering side, I get read as a different candidate.

Great shift in framing, Joe! Positioning through systemic architectural design completely changes the narrative from a simple "content publisher" to true platform engineering.

Marketing and positioning are so often underrated in deep tech, yet they take an incredible amount of effort. Bridging complex engineering with clear market perception is a massive undertaking—and doing it yourself as a founder while keeping a Human Approval Gate at the core is super impressive!

Moving from raw ingestion to clear structural architecture (with deterministic controls and clean data normalization) is exactly what builds real platform trust.

Out of curiosity, as you scale the ingestion feeds, are you planning to enforce automated context alignment at the protocol layer before it hits your approval gate?

Keep building—this is a masterclass in founder positioning! 🚀

Aw thanks so much Tetyana Leyendecker for your kind words. I have not reached that place yet about automated context alignment. That is currently one of the things I will address in the coming days. When it comes to marketing my GSR Network, I make sure to make it very clear that a human brain and human hands are involved in the entire process. It's taken me eight months to reach this point in building the company. I do have an additional element that I'll be releasing in a week or two. I'm going to have a GSR Network Live Scoreboard on YouTube, running consistently with sports scores, schedules, and a little data along the way.
