About Tiger Global
Chase Coleman founded the firm in 2001 under the name Tiger Technology, starting as a public equity fund. Scott Shleifer joined in 2002 and helped open the private investing arm in 2003. Coleman oversees all investment activity. Shleifer led the private investments group until November 2023, when he moved to a senior advisor role and remained a partner. Private funds are numbered as Private Investment Partners (PIP). PIP 15 raised $12.7 billion in 2021. PIP 16 closed at about $2.2 billion against a $6 billion target. Reporting in December 2025 said PIP 17 targets about $2.2 billion.
AI exposure runs through the private funds and the public equity book. CNBC reported that the largest PIP 16 positions are OpenAI and Waymo. Rest of World reported that the firm backed Scale AI and Databricks in 2020 and OpenAI and Waymo in 2021. Recent AI-related rounds on the Lounge deals desk include Temporal Technologies' $550M Series E in September 2026, Sierra's $950M Series E led in May 2026, Cerebras Systems' $1B Series H led in February 2026, and Deepgram's $130M Series C in January 2026. Press coverage describes a more selective approach since 2022, with AI infrastructure and application-layer companies as focus areas.
