Anthropic brings beta Personal Finance tool to Claude with bank account links

On November 5, 2026, Anthropic began rolling out Personal Finance in Claude as a beta for paying subscribers in the United States. According to the company's release notes, users on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans can link bank, credit card, loan and investment accounts, then view balances and spending on one page and ask Claude about their own money. Plaid, a service that connects apps to banks, handles the account links. Users sign in through a Plaid screen, choose which accounts to share and approve read access, so Claude never receives the bank password.
Access is read-only, so Claude can analyze balances and transactions but cannot transfer funds, manage accounts or invest on a user's behalf. BigGo's report describes read-only access to balances and up to 24 months of transactions at more than 12,000 institutions.
Hub conversations are not used to train Anthropic's models, though BigGo notes the same protection does not automatically cover chats outside the hub. Anthropic also warns that Claude can make mistakes and advises users to check important figures against their bank records. The company calls the beta a first step and says it is exploring ways for Claude to work with licensed professionals and regulated firms.
Why it matters
For builders, the launch shows a general-purpose assistant reaching regulated financial data through an aggregator rather than a finance-specific app. Teams that connect bank data to their own products should check what the aggregator permits, how retention is described, and how read-only scopes are enforced. The consent model also sets a reference point: account-by-account approval, revocable access and no credential sharing with the model provider are the standard that other consumer AI products will be measured against.
For investors and sellers, consumer finance distribution is moving into general chat tools that already have large user bases. Dedicated budgeting apps now compete with assistants that draw on the same bank data feeds. Anthropic's ad-free position also contrasts with rivals, which affects how buyers judge trust in finance use cases. A startup pitching a finance wrapper will need to explain what it adds beyond the same connection.
