Ventures Platform
About Ventures Platform
Kola Aina launched the firm in 2016 and is its founding general partner. Techpoint gives June 3, 2016 as the founding date, while Nairametrics says it launched in late 2016. Dotun Olowoporoku is also a general partner, and Seni Sulyman joined as a venture partner when the first pan-African fund was announced. Early investments were made from Aina's own money, after which the firm tested an accelerator model with standard $20,000 checks for pre-seed and seed startups in return for 10% equity. Its first pan-African fund reached a $40 million first close in December 2021 and a $46 million total after a second close in December 2022. The Fund II first close of $64 million came in November 2025, with Nigeria's iDICE programme and the IFC among investors, against a $75 million target. TechCrunch reported in August 2026 an oversubscribed $84 million second fund. Sources describe the firm as based in Lagos or Abuja, Nigeria.
Fund II's mandate names AI alongside fintech, healthtech, agritech and edtech, and aims at products that solve non-consumption or fill infrastructure gaps. Aina has said the firm is most interested where AI changes the economics of serving African markets, including lowering the cost of delivering services and easing labour shortages. The sources I found do not name specific AI portfolio companies or AI-led deals, so none are listed here.
The firm is described as a seed-stage investor that also backs pre-seed rounds. Fund II is meant to deepen seed investments and to lead or support Series A rounds. The only check size published is the earlier accelerator model of $20,000 for 10% equity. Current check sizes are not public.
