About MANTIS Venture Capital

Overview

The Chainsmokers' venture firm; investor in Factory.

History and team

Alex Pall founded Mantis in 2019 with fellow Chainsmokers member Drew Taggart. The firm announced itself publicly in September 2020 with more than $35 million in commitments, reported by TechCrunch. Backers included Mark Cuban, Ron Conway, Keith Rabois and TPG's James Coulter. Milan Koch and Jeffrey Evans run day-to-day operations and investing, and Pall and Taggart help set long-term direction. Later funds were reported at $80 million for Fund II and $100 million for Fund III. Pall announced Fund III in July 2025, after it closed at the end of 2024. Press reports in 2026 say a $100 million Fund IV is being raised. Mantis does not publish which partner leads AI deals, so check recent deal announcements before choosing who to approach.

AI investing

Mantis describes itself as backing seed and Series A technology-enabled startups. Third-party profiles list AI alongside cybersecurity, data and cloud infrastructure, healthtech, fintech and gaming. Its AI portfolio mixes applications and infrastructure, including an AI financial analyst (Rogo), an AI coding platform (Factory), generative video (Tavus) and generative image models (Stability AI). Its recent deals include Factory's $200M growth round in September 2026, Sandstone's $39.6M seed in January 2026 and RiskFront Lab's $3M seed in January 2026. The firm has also followed on in later rounds. One example is Doctronic's $20M Series A in January 2026, which an aggregator lists as healthcare AI.

Stages and check sizes

Mantis focuses on seed and Series A, with occasional later follow-on participation, as the Factory growth round shows. The firm does not publish an official check size. Aggregators give conflicting estimates: one says $500,000 to $2 million for early-stage startups, and others say $100,000 to $10 million. Treat these as unconfirmed.
