Factory raises $200M at $5B for its 'Droids' engineering agents
The round closed on September 15. Participants also included Insight Partners, Evantic Capital, Sound Ventures, NEA, Mantis VC and Clearlake. Marc Benioff, Brad Gerstner and Nico Rosberg joined as angels. Total funding now exceeds $400 million. The money goes to research, product and global go-to-market. Customers include Nvidia, Adobe, Morgan Stanley, Royal Bank of Canada and Palo Alto Networks. Since the April launch of Factory 2.0, the company has shipped a router that assigns a model to each task and a tool for measuring the value of AI spend. Customers can run it in the cloud, on-premises or in air-gapped networks. The category is repricing quickly. Cognition raised $2 billion at a $48 billion valuation on September 9. Factory's disclosure includes no revenue, retention or burn figures, so the markup is not tied to public metrics. For AI founders, buyers in regulated industries are paying for deployment flexibility, model neutrality and proof of ROI, not only code quality. Well-funded rivals will compete on those points. Startups selling into the same enterprises should expect customers to ask for measurable outcomes and support for restricted environments.
