Niche (formerly College Prowler) is a Pittsburgh company that publishes rankings, report cards and reviews for U.S. K-12 schools, colleges and neighborhoods. It is built on public data sets and millions of reviews. Students and families use it for free. Colleges and schools pay for enrollment, recruiting and marketing products, including the Niche Direct Admissions program, which lets colleges accept students based on their Niche profile. Founded in 2002, it has raised roughly $44–46M in total, with its last known round a Series C in 2020 led by Radian Capital. Third-party estimates of headcount range from about 350 to about 590 in 2026. It is a data and consumer-platform business and does not present itself as an AI company.
