Thomsons-Online Benefits
Thomsons Online Benefits sold Darwin, a SaaS platform for global employee benefits administration and engagement, to multinational employers' HR and reward teams.
Founded in London in 2000 by Michael Whitfield and Chris Bruce, Thomsons built Darwin, a SaaS platform that automates benefits design, enrolment, communication and administration for multinational employers. Customers included Microsoft, Cisco, Samsung and IBM, and Wikipedia lists the platform as deployed in over 100 countries and 43 languages. Revenue came from SaaS subscriptions plus consulting and outsourced administration services. VSS sold the company to Mercer in 2016, and the Thomsons brand has since been folded into Mercer. Bruce and Pete Craghill later founded the AI-powered benefits platform Origin. Third-party estimates put headcount at roughly 500.
