DataStax
Sells Astra DB, a Cassandra-based NoSQL and vector database, and Langflow, a low-code RAG builder, to enterprises and developers building production generative AI apps.
DataStax, founded in 2010 as Riptano by Jonathan Ellis and Matt Pfeil, sells Astra DB (a cloud database built on Apache Cassandra), DataStax Enterprise, and the Langflow low-code tool for building generative AI apps. Its customers are enterprises such as FedEx, Capital One, The Home Depot and Verizon, and it earns revenue from database software and cloud subscriptions. It raised roughly $305–342M in total, depending on the source, and reached a $1.6B valuation in a 2022 round led by Goldman Sachs. IBM announced the acquisition in February 2025 and closed it on May 28, 2025, folding DataStax into its watsonx portfolio.
