About 99
99 (formerly 99Taxis) is a São Paulo mobility company offering a ride-hailing platform, 99Food delivery and 99Pay digital payments, serving passengers, drivers, restaurants and businesses. It was founded in 2012, received a $100M round led by SoftBank in 2017, and DiDi bought the remaining stake in January 2018 in a deal reported to be about $600M, making it Brazil's first unicorn. The company operates in roughly 500 Brazilian cities and is a DiDi subsidiary. It is not an AI-focused company; AI is a minor theme in its parent's wider strategy.
