OpenAI models are coming to Google Cloud
GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna are in private preview for select enterprises. General availability is expected "in the coming weeks," according to the joint announcement. Astra is the heavy model for coding, computer use and science work. Sol is pitched as close to Astra in capability at a much lower price. Luna is the fast, cheap option for high-volume everyday tasks. Buyers can draw on existing Google Cloud commitments through Marketplace, and Google says customer prompts, context, and outputs stay inside the customer's designated data perimeter and are not used to train foundation models. The launch follows the end of OpenAI's exclusive distribution arrangement with Microsoft. After that, OpenAI has been rolling out its models to AWS and Google Cloud. Google Cloud becomes the third and final major United States hyperscaler to offer GPT-6 models. Google also describes itself as the only hyperscale cloud provider offering access to all three leading closed source LLMs. OpenAI has said Codex will come to Google Cloud on a similar timeline. For a company building AI products, the main change is procurement. Customers already committed to Google Cloud can add GPT-6 without a separate OpenAI agreement, which may increase price competition. Check retention terms before routing regulated workloads, since zero-data-retention and Confidential Compute support are described as coming soon.
