About Harrison Chase
Harrison Chase is the co-founder and CEO of LangChain, a company built around open-source frameworks for building applications and agents on language models. He released LangChain as a Python side project in October 2022 and has been CEO since the company formed in early 2023. He co-founded it with Ankush Gola.
Before LangChain, he led the machine learning team at Robust Intelligence, an MLOps company focused on testing and validating models. Earlier he led the entity linking team at Kensho Technologies, a fintech startup. He studied statistics and computer science at Harvard.
LangChain's commercial products include LangSmith and LangGraph. The company announced a Series A in February 2024 and a Series B in October 2025. Chase is based in San Francisco.
Chase's angel activity is only partly public. Crunchbase lists four personal investments across three companies: Unstructured, Paradigm and Prime Intellect. Tracxn lists two of them with dates: a Series A in Unstructured in July 2023 and a seed round in Paradigm in 2024.
Crunchbase also shows a pre-seed round in Paradigm and a Series A in Prime Intellect, without public dates. Neither profile lists the size of his own checks. Both databases may be incomplete.
The investments found are all in AI-related companies or enterprise software, which matches his work on developer tools and agent infrastructure. Tracxn classifies his investments as High Tech and Enterprise Applications, all in the United States. His public writing and posts focus on AI agents, agent frameworks and LLM application tooling.
Public records show him investing at pre-seed, seed and Series A. Tracxn lists United States companies only. Chase has not published a thesis, a check size or an investing process that we could find, so founders should not assume any of these. His X account (@hwchase17) is where he posts publicly about AI agents and tooling.
- Unstructured: Series A, July 2023, with Shield Capital and Mango Capital among the co-investors listed by Tracxn.
- Paradigm: seed round in 2024 alongside Y Combinator, per Tracxn. Crunchbase also lists a pre-seed round.
- Prime Intellect: Series A, listed on Crunchbase. The date is not public.
