About BOND

Overview

Mary Meeker's growth firm; publishes Trends in AI.

History and team

BOND was formed in late 2018 as a spinout from Kleiner Perkins and is based in San Francisco. Crunchbase lists Mary Meeker, Mood Rowghani and Noah Knauf as founders. Juliet de Baubigny was also reported to have left Kleiner for the new firm. A securities filing in April 2019 showed a $1.25 billion debut fund. Axios later reported a $2 billion second fund and a $2.5 billion third fund, announced in April 2022. Other partners named on third-party team pages include Jay Simons, Daegwon Chae and Paul Vronsky. BOND does not publicly name a separate partner who leads AI investing, so no individual is credited with that role here.

AI investing

BOND invests in AI as part of a broader technology growth portfolio rather than through a dedicated AI fund. Bloomberg describes it as an investor in OpenAI and Kalshi. In June 2026 it led a $400 million round in AI music company Suno, which Bloomberg reported at a $5.4 billion valuation. BOND also appears among the investors in Quantum Systems' $1.2 billion Series D, according to PitchBook. Quantum Systems is a German developer of AI-enabled autonomous systems. The Lounge deals desk lists both rounds.

Stages and check sizes

Axios calls BOND a growth equity firm, and its funds are sized in the billions. BOND's own description says it backs founders throughout their life cycle of innovation and growth. Typical check sizes and ownership targets are not published, so none are given here. The two AI rounds above were large late-stage rounds, Series D in both cases. BOND led the Suno round, and in Quantum Systems it was one of 35 investors listed by PitchBook.

Notable AI portfolio companies
  • Suno: AI music generation; BOND led the $400M Series D in 2026, reported at a $5.4B valuation.
  • Quantum Systems: German maker of AI-enabled autonomous systems for air, land and sea; BOND is an investor in the $1.2B Series D in 2026.
  • OpenAI: BOND is described by Bloomberg as an investor; round and year not confirmed here.
