Mistral buys Paris adtech startup Pimento, its third acquisition of 2026
Mistral described the price only as "several million euros," but Sifted, citing filings, reported €12.7 million. Of that, €3.6 million in cash bought 48% of Pimento, and 244,786 newly issued Mistral shares covered the rest. L'Informé reported a much lower figure of about €3.8 million, and Mistral has confirmed neither number. The deal works more like a team purchase than a product purchase. Pimento's team joins Mistral's engineering and product groups to work on Vibe, formerly Le Chat. Pimento, founded in 2022, builds ads and short social animations from a brief, brand identity and campaign data from Meta, TikTok, Google and Pinterest. Its site lists more than 180 brands, and their fate has not been stated. The deal follows Koyeb in February and Emmi AI in May, and comes weeks after a €3 billion Series D. Koyeb supplies infrastructure, and Emmi AI adds industrial simulation expertise. For founders, the pattern is that a lab with fresh capital will pay mostly in its own stock for small teams with working domain products. Stock-heavy terms, a roughly €3.6 million cash outlay and a team-first integration suggest a soft landing is a realistic exit for a narrow application startup. It also shows that model vendors are moving into the workflow layer, which squeezes startups that depend on them.
