Outschool runs a marketplace where independent teachers offer small-group live classes, one-on-one tutoring and on-demand courses to K-12 learners, and parents pay per class or by membership. Outschool takes a commission on each class fee. It launched an AI Teaching Assistant for tutors in 2023, built with OpenAI, to draft progress reports for parents. The company has raised about $240M in total from investors including Y Combinator, Lightspeed, Coatue and Tiger Global. Its Series D in October 2021 ($110M) valued it at $3B.
