Netflix launches AI Discover to make finding new movies easier
Welcome back, Superhuman. What are you watching tonight? Unless you’re mid-show or watching an old favorite, you probably don’t know. It’s one of the most frustrating couch questions, but Netflix just proposed an AI-powered answer. Plus, an unlikely celebrity joined the AI startup game.
Today: Bigger models aren’t always better, how to create an impossible stunt video starring yourself with Seedance 2.5, and get the latest prompts and trending social posts.
TODAY IN AI
1. Netflix tests AI-powered recommendations: Netflix introduced AI Discover, a new tab on its TV app that helps you find something to watch based on your mood. You start by picking an AI-generated theme like “Scare Me” or “Quick Watches,” then narrow down from there. It’s powered by a new intelligence layer that responds to feedback, and Netflix is treating it like a “test kitchen” for trying out new discovery features. It’s rolling out to a small group first, with wider access coming soon.
2. Steve Aoki’s content creation startup opens its waitlist: Selendis, an AI startup built by DJ Steve Aoki alongside industry experts, just introduced Archon, a video foundation model that turns raw footage into finished edits. The company claims Archon learns your personal editing style and powers an AI-native video editor that multiple people can use at once. It’s in early access now, with an open waitlist.
3. OpenAI plans a ChatGPT shake-up and teases a new model: According to emails OpenAI sent to users, the lab is preparing to merge ChatGPT’s Chat and Work tabs into one platform, a move that would mirror Anthropic’s merge of Claude and Cowork in September. Codex will stay separate, but it will share the same usage pool. OpenAI also added voice chat to its personal finance tool, while a cryptic post from product chief Thibault Sottiaux hints that a new model may be landing soon.

TUTORIAL
How to create an impossible stunt video starring yourself with Seedance 2.5

Photo: Seedance TV
Open Higgsfield > Video, then choose Seedance 2.5 as your model.
Upload 2–5 clear reference photos of yourself, plus an optional stunt clip for motion or camera inspiration.
Add your references to the generation and set the output to 9:16 if you’re making a Reel or TikTok.
Sample Prompt:“Create a cinematic impossible stunt starring the person in my reference images. Show me [stunt] in [location], using the reference clip for motion and camera inspiration. Preserve my face, hair, outfit, and proportions throughout, with realistic body movement, convincing scale, dynamic camera work, and natural lighting. Structure the scene as setup > stunt > reaction > payoff.”
Set the duration, generate a Draft first, and check the face consistency, stunt motion, framing, and pacing.
Regenerate the strongest version at higher quality, or open Seedance 2.5 Edit to fix specific sections where the face, motion, or camera drifts.
FROM THE FRONTIER
Bigger isn’t always better. Using top models could be costing you more money — and getting worse results

Made with Midjourney
The AI industry is obsessed with leaderboards, with many labs tuning their models to ace tests. But a high ranking doesn’t always mean a model will excel at your specific tasks. The same goes for a model’s reasoning effort.
New research found that higher reasoning effort often fails on tasks that lower settings can solve, while costing up to 42x more for straightforward tasks. So instead of defaulting to frontier models at max reasoning, many leaders are fine-tuning smaller models to fit their needs:
Fermisense spent $500 to train a custom 9B open model that beat all five leading frontier models while running 68x cheaper.
Nvidia and CrowdStrike built a defensive cybersecurity system that outscored top models at a 99% lower cost.
Palantir said that a fine-tuned Nvidia model outperformed frontier models on real customer tasks.
The same applies to benchmarks. Instead of relying on third-party leaderboards, many companies are building internal benchmarks to grade new models on tasks they actually care about. You can build a similar model evaluation system:
Pick a few tasks critical to your day-to-day, where you know what great work looks like.
When a new model drops, test it out on your tasks.
Compare the outputs and switch only if it beats your current model.
That way, you’ll know a new model is worth it before jumping over.
