Trump to name intelligence chief Jay Clayton as White House AI czar, keeping his DNI role

Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton is expected to become the president's top AI adviser while continuing to oversee the 18 U.S. intelligence agencies, according to CNN and the Wall Street Journal, with the White House saying any personnel move will be announced by the president. The post was previously held by David Sacks, who still advises on AI. The appointment follows the administration's plan for an 'AI force' and comes as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told labs that calling for regulation without solutions 'is not leadership.' Expect U.S. AI policy to tilt further toward national-security framing and industry self-regulation.
