Envision switches on integrated 800V DC power system at Chinese AI campus

Envision said on November 2, 2026 that an integrated 800V DC power system is now running live computing workloads at its Galaxy AI data center campus in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia. The company, which calls itself a global leader in green technology, describes the project as the first commercial deployment of this architecture at a large-scale AI data center. The announcement was issued through PR Newswire and carried by the Manila Times, and the figures below come from Envision's release unless noted.
In this design, solid-state transformers take 10 kV medium-voltage AC and feed an 800V DC bus directly. Battery storage covers both short bursts of power, on a scale of seconds, and backup over minutes. Control software links the transformers and batteries at millisecond speed so the site can absorb sudden swings in GPU demand where they occur.
The campus began operating in August 2026 and has a planned capacity of 3GW, with room for up to one million AI accelerators at full build-out. Envision says the architecture lowers energy losses and reduces cabling and copper, while freeing rack space for denser servers. The company plans to use Ulanqab as a reference for Mission Gobi, which targets 5GW of green AI capacity in desert regions by 2030, and it has not published a schedule for further commercial deployments. Envision also says more than 80% of the campus power is planned to come from direct renewable connections.
Why it matters
For teams designing AI racks, 800V DC is moving from concept toward product. NVIDIA plans an MGX-compatible 800 VDC power rack for existing facilities in the second half of 2026, and it targets solid-state transformer conversion at the facility level for 2029. A live site with a stated 3GW plan gives operators a concrete reference, but it is one vendor's system, and its results have not been independently checked.
For investors and sellers, the deployment signals demand for solid-state transformers, battery storage and DC conversion hardware, which Envision now offers as one integrated platform. The efficiency and density gains come from the company itself. Buyers and lenders should ask for measured operating data, including how the system handles load swings and how its costs compare with conventional AC designs, before treating the claims as proven.
