Blume 2.0: The open-source docs framework for humans and agents
The 2.0 release adds 18 analytics integrations, Contentful, Payload and Strapi sources, adapters for search, AI and deployment, and composable API references. Search, deployment, content sources, API references, analytics and the Ask AI backend now load as adapters from blume/* subpaths, and the machine-readable settings moved from an ai key to a new agents key. Pages need no edits unless they use the removed search.boost frontmatter field. Search options include local engines such as Orama, FlexSearch or Pagefind, or hosted Algolia. Ask AI can run through AI Gateway, OpenRouter, LLM Gateway, Inkeep or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Under the hood, Blume drives a hidden Astro project and can eject to a standalone Astro app. It requires Node.js 22.12 or newer. The project is a young entrant in a crowded docs tooling field. Its migrate command hands a Mintlify, Docusaurus, GitBook, MkDocs or ReadMe site to Claude Code or Codex. That targets paid hosted platforms directly. For AI startups, docs now serve agents as much as people. Swappable model gateways, self-hosted search and free licensing let a team keep documentation costs and vendor dependence low while exposing machine-readable content to coding agents.
