Anthropic reported diary entry to police, woman faces felony charge
Claude's safety systems flagged a Florida woman's written threat against a sheriff's office, and a human reviewer then alerted law enforcement. The Lee County Sheriff's Office named her as Carli Michelle Heller of Bonita Springs. She faces a felony charge, with a court date in November. The arrest report cites a Sept. 26 message about attacking the sheriff's office, and a message the next day that allegedly mentioned a new gun. Court records list a Sept. 30 charge under Florida Statute 836.10, a written or electronic threat of a mass shooting or act of terrorism. Tom's Hardware counts it as at least the third such conversation to reach police since August. No Anthropic comment on the case is on record. For AI founders, the case shows that chat logs on a hosted model can pass through human review and end up with police.
