OpenAI agrees to acquire Pierre Computer to bring Code Storage into Codex
OpenAI said on November 4 that it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, the developer tooling startup behind Code Storage, a Git hosting service built for agent workloads. Pierre's Trees and Diffs libraries already run file browsing and change review inside the Codex app, so much of its code is in daily use before any deal closes. Until closing, the two companies stay separate, and OpenAI plans to keep the open-source libraries open while folding paid hosting into Codex.
Pierre was founded by Jacob Thornton and Ian Ownbey and disclosed a $22 million Series A in November 2025. Neither the price nor the number of staff moving to OpenAI has been made public. The move follows Meta's purchase of coding startup Conductor announced the same week, which shows frontier labs and large platforms competing for developer infrastructure.
For founders, the signal is that agents generate commits, files and history that need purpose-built storage. Teams building developer tools should expect buyers to value infrastructure that agents already depend on.
