firsthand (FirstHand Health, Inc.) provides care for people with serious mental illness (SMI). It combines peer specialists with lived experience, care navigators, clinicians and technology to engage Medicaid enrollees who are often disconnected from care. Health plans, mainly managed Medicaid plans, pay it to engage their members, and it shares the savings generated. It was founded in 2021 and raised a $28.1M Series B led by GV in 2023. A 2026 SEC filing showed another $10M of a planned $32M round, for about $52.9M raised in total. It cut most of its staff in five states in March 2025 after losing a UnitedHealthcare Medicaid contract. Note: this is a healthcare services company that uses technology.
