Upscale AI raises $200M Series A at $1B
Tiger Global, Premji Invest and Xora Innovation co-led the round, announced January 21. Maverick Silicon, StepStone, Mayfield, Prosperity7, Intel Capital and Qualcomm Ventures also took part. Proceeds are earmarked for hiring across engineering, sales and operations. The round was oversubscribed and lifted total funding above $300M.
The Santa Clara company sells a full-stack platform of silicon, systems and software meant to tie GPUs, memory and storage together. It is led by CEO Barun Kar and Executive Chairman Rajiv Khemani, and it backs open standards such as Ultra Accelerator Link and Ultra Ethernet. Bloomberg framed it as a challenger to Cisco and Broadcom.
The valuation has already moved. A $190M Series A-1 extension in June was led by Premji Invest, with Nvidia, Salesforce Ventures, Temasek and Seligman Ventures as new investors. That put the post-money valuation at $2B and total funding near $500M.
For AI founders, the pace shows how much capital is flowing to the networking layer of GPU clusters, not just to chips and models. The pitch of open standards against single-vendor lock-in is drawing investors, including Nvidia, whose proprietary interconnects the company's standards-based approach is meant to offset. Teams that depend on multi-vendor clusters should expect more options in this layer. Startups raising in adjacent infrastructure can also expect investors to compare them with this valuation trajectory.
