iPremom raises $17.4M Seed
Amadeus Capital Partners led the round, with Asabys Partners and APEX Ventures participating. One report says Asabys co-led through its Sabadell Asabys II fund. Valuation was not disclosed. The money is earmarked for further clinical validation, wider commercial availability in Spain, and regulatory filings in the EU and the US.
The product is MaiRa, a blood test that reads cell-free RNA from a single sample taken between weeks 9 and 14 of pregnancy. Predictive models then estimate preeclampsia risk months before symptoms appear. The training data comes from the PREMOM study: more than 26,000 samples from about 10,000 pregnancies. Preeclampsia affects up to 8% of pregnancies. The company already offers the test in Spain through its own laboratory and plans to add other pregnancy complications over time.
For AI founders, the case shows where a proprietary clinical dataset can justify a seed round of this size in diagnostics. The model is not the main asset here. The asset is a large, prospectively collected dataset, and the next milestones are regulatory clearance and clinical validation rather than model performance. Teams selling prediction into healthcare should plan for that timeline and budget for it.
