Luminary raises $22M Series A
Ten Coves Capital, a fintech-focused growth equity firm, led the round. BNY came in as a strategic investor, and 8VC joined existing backers Fin Capital, Focus Financial Partners and Rockefeller Capital Management's FinTech Innovation Fund, plus several family offices. Total funding is now nearly $32 million. Valuation and ownership terms were not disclosed. The New York company, led by CEO David Barnard, uses AI with human oversight to turn estate documents into structured, source-verified data for advisers, trust companies, law firms and accounting firms. It supports more than $500 billion in client assets. Customers include Caprock, IEQ Capital and Wealth Enhancement Group. 8VC led its $9.5 million seed round in 2023. The new money goes to AI capabilities and integrations, more administration workflows, and a larger commercial team. For AI founders, the round shows where buyers in regulated fields are putting money: workflows where a wrong output changes real outcomes, and where a human reviews the result and every figure traces to a source document. A bank taking a strategic stake also points to distribution through institutions as a route to market. Revenue, retention and pricing were not disclosed, so traction beyond asset coverage and the customer list is unverified.
