Corgi Insurance raises $160M Series B
TCV led the round, which values Corgi at $1.3 billion. Other backers include Kindred Ventures, OurCrowd, Alumni Ventures and Leblon Capital. Total funding now exceeds $268 million. The raise came about 16 weeks after a $108 million Series A. The money is earmarked for trucking insurance first, then payroll and small business lines. Corgi will also spend on distribution and on the AI systems behind underwriting, claims and policy administration.
Corgi received regulatory approval in July 2025 and operates as a licensed carrier. That means it runs underwriting and claims in-house, without relying on MGAs, brokers or third-party administrators. It sells to startups, with reported customers including Deel and Bland.ai. Competitors in startup coverage include Vouch and Embroker, each of which has raised well over $100 million. The round also landed in a weak month for the sector: global insurtech funding fell 50% in April 2026, per Fintech Global.
For AI founders, the signal is that owning the regulated layer can justify a premium valuation when software wraps it. Corgi's model suggests defensibility comes from carrier status plus proprietary underwriting data, not a thin AI layer over a broker. It also points to a vertical expansion path: build in a niche, then reuse the stack.
