Transfyr raises $25M Seed
General Catalyst led the round, with Lux Capital, Breakout Ventures, Factory, Neo, SV Angel, MVP Ventures, Underscore VC and philanthropist Lyda Hill also in. Angels include David Baker, Chris Ré, Jakob Uszkoreit, Ken Frazier, Stephen Quake and Kevin Weil. Valuation was not reported. CEO Anna Marie Wagner previously ran AI and corporate development at Ginkgo Bioworks, and CIO Renee Wegrzyn was the founding director of ARPA-H. The Cambridge, Massachusetts company will spend the money on hiring, in-house wet-lab data generation and rollouts with diagnostic, academic, workforce and frontier AI research partners. The product is an observability layer for labs. Sensor stacks and multimodal models record what operators do at the bench, their intent, room conditions and instrument telemetry. The aim is to capture the workarounds and tacit knowledge that protocols and papers leave out. Transfyr also supports a nearly $1M Massachusetts Life Sciences Center grant with the BioBuilder Educational Foundation, and joins a Boston University program under a National Science Foundation cloud labs initiative. For AI founders, the bet is that physical-world training data is scarcer than models. Teams building lab automation, robotics or scientific agents depend on execution data that rarely exists in usable form. A well-funded company collecting it at the source could become a supplier, or a competitor for the same lab partnerships.
