Robocurve raises $10M Seed
Initialized Capital led the round, with Notable Capital, Decasonic, Y Combinator and Halcyon Futures participating. Valuation was not disclosed. The money is earmarked for a larger research team, testing across more robots and tasks, and grants to academic groups building open benchmarks. Robocurve is a San Francisco public benefit corporation that incorporated about three months before the announcement. It says it acts as a third-party auditor of how frontier models control physical robots, and that AI labs do not set its research agenda or methodology. It reports 6M+ views of its research and 97k+ downloads of its open-source harness, Inspect Robots. It also says researchers from 200+ institutions have signed up to build benchmarks with it. Its early finding is that general-purpose LLMs can beat specialized vision-language-action models on simple robot tasks. Latency and generalization to more complex robots remain open questions. For AI founders, the round shows investors will fund independent measurement of physical AI. Robotics demos are mostly run by the labs that build the models. Startups selling robot models or embodied agents should expect third-party benchmark results to become a reference point in customer and investor diligence.
