Pure DC secures $780M facility with up to $1.9B for data center build-out
As Data Center Dynamics reported, Pure Data Centres Group, operating as Pure DC, has agreed a $780 million Platform Growth Facility with a $1.1 billion accordion. The accordion is an uncommitted option to borrow more, which would take the framework to about $1.9 billion if lenders agree. Bloomberg described the package as up to $1.9 billion in debt. The London-based developer was established in 2015 and is backed by funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management. It builds data centres across Europe and the Middle East for large hyperscale customers.
Unlike loans tied to single campuses, this facility is set at corporate level and funds the development pipeline and future site purchases. Bloomberg reported that the money will also cover general corporate purposes and securing energy for more data centres. Citigroup Global Markets, First Abu Dhabi Bank and Infranity are the new lenders, joining ABN AMRO, Allianz Global Investors and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation.
The facility follows a $2.7 billion package announced in May, which included a $2.15 billion loan secured against the Dublin and Amsterdam campuses. Pure DC says financing over the past 12 months now exceeds $6.2 billion. The company's executive chairman and interim CEO said attracting new lenders is a strong endorsement of its strategy.
Why it matters
For companies that rent GPU capacity, the financing matters because developers need debt before they can secure power, buy land and sign tenants. Pure DC's model starts with power at a site, so a larger credit line can shorten the gap between a secured grid connection and delivered capacity. Buyers of capacity in Europe and the Middle East may see more supply in the coming years, though the new sites are not yet built and their pricing and timing remain open.
For AI operators and investors, the lender list is the signal. A mix of global banks and institutional investors from Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States is willing to fund non-US AI campuses, which points to a broader pool of capital for similar developers. The facility is still partly an option, since the $1.1 billion accordion only adds to total borrowing if lenders agree. Founders should watch how quickly the company turns this capacity into leased, powered sites.
