Firecrawl raises $75M Series B
Smash Capital led the round, joined by Altos Ventures, Nexus Venture Partners, Y Combinator, Freestyle and Offline Ventures. The valuation was not disclosed. With the funding, the company launched Alexandria, one interface that connects AI agents to official data providers, Firecrawl's own indexes and the live web. The company says it covers 82 data providers and more than 113 million documents in 28 categories, available through MCP, CLI and API. The San Francisco company started as web-scraping tooling spun out of the Mendable project and says more than 1.5 million users build with its tools. It already pays providers such as Wikimedia Enterprise and plans a self-service system that lets contributors earn when agents use their data. Its claim of 21% better answers than built-in web tools comes from 845 tasks scored by blind AI judging, on a task set the company built itself. For agent builders, this round shows retrieval turning into a licensed, metered layer instead of free scraping. If paid sources become normal, data costs and licensing terms will shape both margins and answer quality.
