Motive raises $1.3B led by General Catalyst for AI in fleets and physical operations
The money comes from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund, and Motive withdrew its S-1 registration statement at the same time. The company had been preparing to list on the NYSE under the ticker MTVE. ARR passed $600 million, with growth accelerating to 30% year over year. ARR from customers spending over $100,000 grew nearly 60%, and net revenue retention for that group was above 120%. No valuation was disclosed. The last known figure is $2.85 billion, from 2022. The capital will fund AI product development, including a forthcoming Maintenance and Operations Intelligence tool, and expand sales, support and service teams. Some coverage describes the financing as non-dilutive capital repaid from revenue, not an equity round. That makes comparisons with equity deals like Cognition's $2 billion Series E imprecise. For AI founders, the signal is about financing structure. Capital tied to recurring revenue let a company with real scale skip a public listing and avoid selling equity. That route fits only businesses with predictable revenue and strong retention. Applied-AI companies in physical industries that reach that profile may have an alternative to a venture round or an IPO.
