Legora raises $550M Series D
Accel led the round, with Benchmark, Bessemer, General Catalyst, ICONIQ, Redpoint and Y Combinator returning. New backers include Alkeon, Bain Capital, FirstMark, Menlo Ventures, Sands Capital, Starwood Capital and Salesforce Ventures. Total funding now stands at $816 million. The money goes to U.S. hiring and infrastructure. The company opened in New York a year ago and is adding offices in Houston and Chicago. It reports more than 800 customers across 50 markets. The climb has been fast. An $80 million Series B at $675 million came in May 2025, followed by a $150 million Series C at $1.8 billion in October. Headcount is about 400, roughly a quarter of it in the U.S. Coverage also points to pressure from model makers. Anthropic's Claude legal plugin raised questions about whether labs could take over legal work. The CEO's answer is that buyers want a maintained product. Harvey is the other main rival. For founders building vertical AI, the round suggests investors will still pay up for category leaders with law firm distribution, even with foundation labs moving into the same workflows. Legora's U.S. push relies on local offices and customer support, not just software. That points to a go-to-market cost that vertical AI companies may need to fund.
